Mediterranei Invisibili — Alfonso Femia

Invisible Mediterranean(s) is the cultural-editorial project that Alfonso Femia has developed and published, following the invite as Guest Director from the international magazine “IQD” and its editorial director Roberta Busnelli. After the success and the acknowledgements received from over 70 figures among which architects, artists, designers, teachers, politics, journalists, photographers, etc., it has also become a format and a project that takes shape within 500×100 with the purpose to investigate unknown places, cities and landscapes of the Mediterranean, especially with the will to declare the Strait of Messina as its magnet, its barycenter. In a dialogue with external interventions, exploring an area of the Mediterranean (Calabria and Sicily firstly) among the most interesting, and too often silent about what happens within this territory, and with its abilities and qualities of being the listening point and voice of the whole Mediterranean, especially the one that looks from south-east towards south-west.
The “Journey in the Strait”, after its 2018 edition, wants to become an annual appointment to affirm this centrality of the Mediterranean around the Strait and begin a more extensive and deeper dialogue between two regions, the cities of Reggio Calabria and Messina, three seas (Ionian, Tyrrhenian and the sea of the Strait), and two continents.
