RACCONTARE IL MEDITERRANEO
The Strait is an additional territory; it cannot be confined within the boundaries of the two regions it belongs to. It is something else.
And if places exist thanks to the people who inhabit them, the Forte Batteria Siacci will be rembered for the Biennale dello Stretto and for the people who inhabited it, because that is now its memory.

AGIRE SOSTENIBILE
A commitment to science, innovation, and governance is necessary for the Strait: Sicily and Calabria are frontier territories with a dual character – environmental, due to their geography, and social, due to the migratory flows from Africa to Europe that pass through the Strait area.

IL CAFFÈ DELLA BIENNALE
Technical experts and local institutions are engaging in a dialogue on the environmental issues of the Strait, which are essential to giving international momentum to the territories.
The extraordinary richness of sea, sun, and wind that characterizes them contrasts with their almost untapped exploitation.
At the core lies a gap to be addressed: the need to spread a culture of sustainability, and therefore education and awareness among younger generations and citizens.
The Strait is a unique source of energy and can serve as an international inspiration from a scientific perspective.
The Biennale dello Stretto contributes to offering a broad vision, with perspectives on the other shores of the Mediterranean, going beyond the specifities of the Strait area.

LA DIMENSIONE DELL’IMMATERIALE

Where does the dimension of the immaterial lie in a world dominated by the immaterial?
The Southern man either intensifies the concept of belonging or denies it through escape and emigration. The crisis in the relationship with places unfolds within this dimension.
The immaterial is found in the split between places and the reflection on places themselves. Places become words, without being lived or experience.
One cannot do without experience, which physically keeps one’s feet grounded in the present.
Andrea Di Consoli, Mauro Francesco Minervino moderated by Raffaele Cutillo and Gaetano di Gesu. Francesca Agostino participate.

Wind and water – extraordinary resources – are explored in Felice Arena’s fascinating account of the energy that can be generated from sea waves. Alongside invisibility, a defining feature of the Strait is narrated by Fulvio Cama, winner of the traditional Latin sail championship and passionate storyteller of the Strait.

“No place has so many myths about wind, water, and fire. No other place has so much energy”.
